The April trip was third time lucky for the group. At last the Four Counties ring was completed. It has been a long time coming, Mike Newport found the Log Book that Brian Davy kept during the 1988 trip in 2010, so now we have an accurate and very interesting account of the trip.
Now all we need is some photos please
Brian Davy Trip notes from the Anglo-Welsh Log Book, (as written)
The boat name was Newark hired from Anglo Welsh's Trevor base. Crew were NA, JP, DK, TC, & SG. A visit was also made to Llangollen. Was this the trip that Simon refers to where we woke up to find the boat low in the water? If so I recall that we towed backwards another boat but that may have been another visit to LLangollen. The reason for the low water was that the feeder grid from the river Dee was blocked with leaves. The canal is a water supply to the reservoirs at Hurston Junction and several million gallons a day flow so if there is a blockage at the feeder levels drop quickly.
Nick Ash reports on the October trip from Trevor to Hurleston Junction and return. Nick says 1987, the date is 1988, as confirmed by a letter home recently found by my wife.
Also it was my bike, Steve did not join the crew until 1990. I was only on board for 4 days and cycled back some 30 or 40 miles to the Trevor base where my car with cycle rack was waiting and returned to Milton Keynes, where I was living that year.
I also have in mind that Nick did two trips, but I could be wrong.
Nick's photos and memories (Thanks very much for the info Nick)
